Emirates Unveils Giant UAE Flag Livery On An A380 – Here’s Where It’s Been Flying

Dubai-based Emirates has unveiled its latest aircraft livery, with a striking United Arab Emirates flag on its iconic Airbus A380 aircraft. The new livery looks to ‘raise the nation’s flag higher, prouder and further than ever before’. The latest livery has already been put to work, with the plane taking flight on some of the airline’s most popular routes, including New York, Brisbane, and Sydney.

The world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380-800, is the backbone of the Emirates fleet, and the new livery on A6-EVG has been an extension of the usual aircraft tail design, with this latest display being a tribute to the spirit, ambition, and unity of the UAE. This livery is part of the airline’s ‘This Flag Will Always Fly’ campaign, which is part of a wider national initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The unique livery features strong, bold colors of the UAE, which have been translated into a 3D design that elegantly drapes both sides of the double-decker. This moving canvas is a symbol of national pride and is easily visible from runways and airport terminals around the world. The airline has been proud to continue the call to raise the nation’s flag, to show the country’s unity and strength.

Currently, the decal is only on an A380; Emirates has additional plans to apply the same livery design onto a Boeing 777. A6-EVG, which is carrying this design, was removed from service on April 28, after a flight back from London, before it sat in the paint shop until returning to service on May 5 with its new livery. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline, explains:

“We’re proud to respond to HH Sheikh Mohammad’s call to raise the flag as a tribute to the UAE’s unity and strength. Since our inception, every Emirates aircraft has proudly carried the UAE flag wherever it flies. This new livery is our way of honouring a home that has given us so much, and a nation that stands as proof of what is possible when we collectively choose, every day, to reach higher. There is no greater stage for our flag than in the skies, and no greater privilege for Emirates than to fly it with pride.”

While the majority of Emirates aircraft (apart from those with other special liveries) have the UAE flag on their tails, this latest design is a unifying symbol across society and shared responsibility for the people of the UAE to come together, especially to show national strength given recent geopolitical tensions and challenges.

A look at data from Flightradar24 shows that A6-EVG resumed service on May 5, with the A380 flying from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to New York (JFK), the first flight in this iconic livery. From there, it returned to the Middle East before starting multiple trips down under. Flight details below at the time of writing (May 10):

According to ch-aviation data, the aircraft in this latest livery is A6-EVG, a seven-and-a-half-year-old A380-842delivered to Emirates in 2019. The plane took its first test flight on October 18, 2018, under French Airbus registration F-WWAS. It was delivered officially to Emirates on June 18, 2019.

The interior is configured to carry a total of 484 passengers across four classes, including 14 in First, 76 Business, 56 Premium Economy, and 33 in regular economy.

Emirates is the world’s largest operator of the A380, with a total of 116 in its fleet. The airline has various configurations on its double-deckers, with between 468 and 615 seats, which allows for versatility depending on the airline’s route.
