Strategic partnership between Dubai Customs and Emirates SkyCargo boosts imports by 82% and strengthens regional supply chains

Dubai: Dubai has reinforced its position as a global trade and logistics hub through an integrated logistics bridge developed by Dubai Customs in strategic partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of goods and vital supplies despite evolving regional circumstances.

The integrated system was implemented across the Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and the Al Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre, accelerating customs clearance, enhancing operational capacity, and supporting food and pharmaceutical security in the UAE and across GCC markets.

Cargo volumes climb sharply

Operational indicators highlighted the scale of the initiative, with imported goods cleared through both facilities increasing from 26.6 million kilograms in January 2026 to more than 48.2 million kilograms in May 2026, representing growth of over 82%.

The maximum daily volume of handled goods also rose significantly, from 1.24 million kilograms in January to 2.11 million kilograms in May, demonstrating the system’s ability to absorb growing demand while maintaining service quality and processing speed.

Supporting regional supply chains

Dubai Customs said the initiative’s impact extended beyond the UAE, helping maintain supply chain continuity across GCC countries.

Through cooperation with Emirates SkyCargo, support operations up to May 2026 included 529 logistics truck trips transporting 2,636 tonnes of essential commodities, including food products, pharmaceuticals and general cargo.

The operations created an effective regional supply corridor that enabled vital shipments to continue reaching Gulf markets despite changing regional conditions, reinforcing Dubai’s role in enhancing supply chain resilience.

Vision of resilience and preparedness

His Excellency Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said: “What we are witnessing today is the result of the long-term vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which has made resilience, agility and preparedness defining strengths of Dubai’s economic model.”

He added that Dubai will continue strengthening integration between customs, logistics and maritime sectors to maintain its position as a trusted global trade gateway.

Integrated logistics ecosystem

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, said Dubai’s ability to maintain trade flows and ensure the continuous delivery of vital goods reflects the leadership’s vision and commitment to building a world-class logistics and economic ecosystem.

“What we have achieved demonstrates the strength of integration between government entities and strategic partners, and reaffirms Dubai’s ability to respond with agility while maintaining the uninterrupted movement of trade,” he said.

Dr. Busenad added that Dubai Customs will continue advancing smart services and digital solutions in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, further strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global trade hub.

Smart initiatives drive efficiency

Dubai Customs relied on several advanced initiatives, including the Green Corridor and Shahin programmes, which provided fast and secure pathways for priority shipments such as food, medicines and essential goods.

Customs and inspection teams operated around the clock to ensure business continuity, while both cargo facilities implemented operational measures including expanded inspection activities, increased utilisation of available cargo space and the addition of new inspection windows.

These measures helped reduce congestion, accelerate processing times and maintain smooth cargo flows during peak demand periods.

Strengthening Dubai’s cargo leadership

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, said Dubai had once again demonstrated its ability to maintain global trade flows through advanced infrastructure, strategic partnerships and operational flexibility.

“The results achieved further strengthen Dubai’s position as a global hub for air cargo and logistics, and demonstrate its ability to efficiently connect markets and continents in all circumstances,” he said.

Abbas added that Emirates SkyCargo will continue investing in smart solutions and expanding operational capabilities to support global trade growth and enhance the resilience of future supply chains.
