Rubio to visit India next month as nations work to reset ties By Investing.com

Investing.com — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit India in May as New Delhi and Washington work to reset relations following strains from US tariff policies.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor announced the planned visit in a post on X on Friday. The announcement came after Rubio met with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Washington, where the two held talks on bilateral relations.

Gor did not specify the exact date of the visit. India’s Ministry of External Affairs did not immediately respond to a request for further details.

“Welcome to the White House @VikramMisri! Productive meeting with @SecRubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defense and the Quad. Secretary Rubio looks forward to visiting India next month!” Gor wrote.

The trip will mark Rubio’s first visit to India since taking office. Other senior US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have visited India over the past year.

The visit comes as US-India relations have gained momentum in recent months. In February, India and the US reached a trade agreement that eliminated Washington’s high tariffs on Indian exports and established a framework for expanding bilateral trade. Both countries are still working to finalize the agreement.
