Jakarta’s metro operator has selected Hitachi Rail together with PT Softorb Technology Indonesia to upgrade the fare collection infrastructure along the initial segment of the North-South Line.

Under the CP111 MRT Jakarta AFC System Development & Performance Improvement deal, over 200 units spread across 13 stations will be replaced so that various ticket formats can be processed at the gates, while also linking to a newly introduced account-based ticketing framework. The initiative is designed to boost dependability and operational effectiveness, while also broadening the range of payment methods available to riders, such as EMV contactless bank cards, QR-based e-wallets, prepaid bank cards, paper tickets, and mobile QR tickets.

Once implemented, the system will support smooth fare handling and connectivity with the JakLingko public transport network. Gabriel Koe, who leads Hitachi Rail’s operations in Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, stated on August 20 that the enhancements in performance and payment flexibility are intended to create a more streamlined and commuter-oriented travel experience for Jakarta’s expanding ridership.

Previously, MRT Jakarta had also contracted Hitachi Rail and Sumitomo to deliver automatic fare collection equipment for the Phase 2A extension of the same line, which remains under construction.
