A free webinar aimed at early-stage innovators will explore how to access the right support when developing health and social care ideas in Scotland.
Taking place on Tuesday 26 May from 12pm to 12.45pm, the lunch and learn session is titled ‘From complexity to clarity: Scotland’s health and social care ecosystem deconstructed for early innovators’. Interested attendees can register here.
The webinar will be presented by healthcare innovation agency InnoScot Health’s Head of Innovation Commercialisation, Gillian Henderson, and will focus on helping innovators better understand the complexities of Scotland’s health and social care network.
The session is designed for early-stage innovators across the NHS, industry and academia, including those in their final year of training or first year of qualified practice.
Gillian will be joined by speakers from the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI), a digital health and social care organisation formed through a collaboration between the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde.
Presenting on behalf of DHI will be Digital Health Expert Yazmin Cáceres-Fegrero and Head of Research and Skills Dr Sanna Rimpiläinen.
Alongside Senior Business Innovation Manager Dr Abigail Lyons, they recently unveiled a report titled Navigating Scotland’s Digital Health and Social Care Innovation Ecosystem, which states that “Scotland envisions leading digital health, yet the innovator’s path remains a labyrinth”.
The report aims to improve understanding of the ecosystem and address “the navigation challenge” through insights into ecosystem strengths, structural gaps, barriers experienced by innovators, implications for NHS Scotland and recommendations for the future.
Gillian said: “This webinar will provide important insights to help early-stage health and social care innovators better understand potential barriers and routes to support.
“Speakers from DHI will provide attendees with an overview of the report and its findings, including how it identifies gaps, bottlenecks and duplication across the ecosystem.
“This evidence-based overview of the health and social care ecosystem is an important step in improving clarity for innovators who may be unsure how to identify the right support for their ideas.”

InnoScot Health provides support for ideas that meet its criteria, helping innovators develop concepts with the aim of bringing new products or services to market that can benefit patients and service users.
The organisation is particularly interested in innovations that address areas of unmet need and have commercial potential.
