TOKYO — The Japan Golf Association (JGA) has finalized a major sponsorship agreement with Shinkin Central Bank, securing crucial backing for its premier national tournaments, youth development pipelines, and community-focused health initiatives.

Under the new partnership, Shinkin Central Bank will serve as an official sponsor for Japan’s three major national open tournaments organized by the association: the Japan Open Golf Championship, the Japan Women’s Open Golf Championship, and the Japan Senior Open Golf Championship.

Beyond tournament branding, the agreement heavily emphasizes grassroots growth. Shinkin Central Bank will fund the JGA’s ongoing golf promotion and player development programs, allowing the association to elevate its flagship events while driving economic and social development in the local communities hosting the tournaments.

Expanding the Game: Health and Diversity

The JGA plans to leverage this corporate backing to roll out targeted outreach programs spearheaded by its Golf Promotion Headquarters. Two specialized committees will lead the charge:

  • The Golf and Health Committee: Will promote the sport’s medical benefits, focusing heavily on how playing golf can increase healthy life expectancy.
  • The Women and Golf Committee: Will launch initiatives specifically designed to introduce more women to the sport and grow the female golfing demographic across Japan.

Leading the Next Generation

Masanari Iketani, Chairman of the JGA, expressed high optimism for what the partnership means for both local communities and the international future of Japanese golf.

“The three national Open tournaments hosted by our association… are held on some of Japan’s most prestigious courses, befitting the competition to determine the best in Japan, and attract a large number of spectators every year,” Iketani said. “With the support of Shinkin Central Bank, we hope to contribute to the development of local communities by providing visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the exciting competition… and to experience the wonders of golf.”

Iketani also highlighted the bank’s role in maintaining Japan’s competitive edge on the global stage.

“Furthermore, Shinkin Central Bank will also support the development of the next generation of players who will lead the future of Japanese golf,” Iketani noted. “Many of the players currently active on Tours around the world, including in the United States, have gained international experience as representatives of Japan on the JGA National Team. Our association will continue to develop and strengthen the next generation of players, producing players who will follow in their footsteps.”
