Security experts have called for the creation of a dedicated national security adviser and a comprehensive strategy to shield the economy from future shocks after the escalating conflict in the Middle East exposed Australia’s growing supply chain fragility.
The federal government on Friday released 20 per cent of the country’s fuel reserves after the Iranian crisis led to a doubling of fuel demand and put a spotlight on Australia’s reliance on imported oil and vulnerabilities in its refinery and transportation capabilities.
