An unmounted diamond from De Beers, called the Jwaneng 28.88, was one of the top-selling items at the most recent jewelry sale at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, bringing in HKD 21 million ($2.7 million).
The round, 28.88-carat, D-flawless diamond, which hails from the miner’s Jwaneng deposit in Botswana, starred in the April 23 High Jewelry auction. The final sale price fell within its presale estimates.
In total, the auction brought in HKD 256.9 million ($32.8 million), with 178 lots on offer. Those included pieces from well-known design houses, including Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Ronald Abram.

A Ronald Abram cushion-shaped, 15.33-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring.

These Harry Winston cluster design earrings feature pear-shaped emeralds and pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds suspending step-cut Colombian emeralds weighing 21.60 and 21.11 carats.

A ring with a pear-shaped, 18.29-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond.


Estimate: HKD 6 million to HKD 8 million ($766,007 to $1 million)
Another Harry Winston piece, this one a ring with a marquise-shaped, 13.76-carat, D, internally flawless diamond center stone between two tapered baguette diamonds.


Estimate: HKD 6 million to HKD 9 million ($766,007 to $1.1 million)
A ring with a cushion-shaped, 2.86-carat, fancy-vivid-purplish-pink, I2-clarity diamond flanked by two shield-shaped diamonds.


Estimate: HKD 5.5 million to HKD 8 million ($702,182 to $1 million)
A Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet designed as a line of cushion and oval-shaped Kashmir and Burmese sapphires, with baguette, tapered baguette, square- and brilliant-cut diamonds.


Estimate: HKD 3.5 million to HKD 7 million ($446,834 to $893,661)
Graff made this ring, bearing a brilliant-cut, 10.45-carat, D, VVS1 diamond that has the potential to be internally flawless.


Estimate: HKD 4.1 million to HKD 6.5 million ($523,430 to $829,874)
