A Department of Foreign Trade business matching event in Chongqing, China, generated strong interest in Thai cassava, with projected orders exceeding 2 billion baht from buyers across food, feed, and logistics sectors, highlighting rising demand in western China.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Foreign Trade reported strong results from a cassava trade event in Chongqing, China, with projected orders exceeding 2 billion baht, indicating rising demand in western China.

The business matching activity involved 22 Thai exporters and 34 Chinese importers, resulting in 163 agreements. Projected orders over one year are valued at about 63.25 million US dollars, or roughly 2.08 billion baht.

Thai companies held negotiations with buyers from sectors including food production, animal feed, and logistics, while presenting product samples to demonstrate quality. Chinese importers showed strong interest in sourcing Thai cassava as an industrial raw material, with demand split between cassava starch, chips, and pellets.

Officials said economic growth, urban expansion, and improved infrastructure in western China are supporting higher demand for agricultural inputs. The Thai delegation also visited a major logistics hub in Chongqing to review transport links connecting the region with ASEAN and other markets, which could help reduce shipping costs and improve access for Thai products.
