CAE expand in India with new pilot-training site

Canadian pilot-training firm CAE has expanded its presence in India, opening a new facility in Mumbai that has capacity to house six full-flight simulators.

CAE revealed the 4,048sq m (44,000sq ft) site’s opening on 15 April, saying its investment in the facility reflects its expectation that India’s rapidly expanding aviation industry will drive significant demand for new pilots.

“The Mumbai centre will support comprehensive pilot training services, complemented by Airbus, ATR and Boeing training delivered across the… network in India,” the company says.

CEA established the facility under affiliate CAE Simulation Training Private, a joint venture created in partnership with Indian conglomerate InterGlobal Enterprises.

The site already houses one operational A320 full-flight simulator and will likely receive a second this year.

CAE Training already operates three other pilot-training operations in India, including those in Greater Noida and Gurugram, both near New Delhi, and in the south-central Indian city of Bengaluru. The four sites operate a combined 16 full-flight simulators, though CAE expects to add another seven of the devices in the coming years.

It calls India “one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets” and estimates the country will require 22,000 new pilots through 2034.
