Porsche Design’s legendary Chronograph 1 just got closer than ever to the sports car that inspired it. For the first time since the iconic watch debuted in 1972, the brand is offering the Chronograph 1 on automotive-grade leather straps sourced from the same materials used inside Porsche’s famed 911. Available on both the All Black Numbered Edition and All Titanium Numbered Edition, the new straps add an extra layer of motorsport heritage to one of the coolest chronographs ever made.
Until now, both versions of the iconic chronograph were available solely on a titanium bracelet. But today PD has added leather options in classic Porsche colors—Black, Guards Red, Classic Cognac and Night Blue (sadly, no Rubystar yet).

The straps are accented with tone-matching stitching and are secured with a pin buckle and butterfly clasp hybrid closure. The external pin buckle gives the strap a classic look and provides precise length adjustment. Hidden beneath, the inner butterfly clasp with nearly invisible side pushers, lets the wearer quickly secure the watch to the wrist and as there is no need to open or close the pin buckle, the system minimizes wear and tear on the leather.

The clasp is made entirely of titanium and deploys the same finishing technique to match the case. The straps are also outfitted with the brand’s push-button quick-change system, so swapping straps or bracelets in and out takes only a few seconds.
Each of the two models feature a 40.8mm titanium case, either with a glass bead-blasted finish or a black carbide coating. Both deploy sapphire crystals covering the three-register dials and exhibition case backs, through which the wearer can admire the COSC certified Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.140 automatic chronograph movement. The caliber is accurate to -4 to +6seconds per day and offers a 48 hour power reserve

Both new versions of the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 are available now at porsche.com and limited to 1,000 pieces each per year. The All Black Numbered Edition retails for $7,650 while the All Titanium Numbered Edition is available for $6,750. Customers who already own the classic Chronograph 1 model can also purchase leather straps individually.
