Christina Aguilera buckled into a harder Saint Laurent sandal on Wednesday, arriving at The Abbey’s 35th anniversary party in West Hollywood in one of the house’s more hardware-heavy silhouettes.

The “Ain’t No Other Man” singer wore Saint Laurent’s $1,850 Bruce Sandals in dark brown leather, using the house’s pointed open-toe shape as the only brown piece against the black styling. The pair featured three broad buckle-fastened straps: one low across the front of the foot, one higher over the instep and one around the ankle. Each strap was secured with a rectangular silver buckle, giving the sandal a harness edge.

She paired the strappy, hardware-heavy silhouette with a layered black look, wearing a lace bra under a plunging bodysuit with ruffles running down the front. She tucked the piece into shimmering hot shorts, then added sheer tights and black leather gloves punched with metal eyelets at the wrists.

Aguilera is not the only singer favoring buckled footwear this spring. FKA twigs went for more height in April, returning to Marc Jacobs’ Kiki platform boots for a “Mother Mary” screening with stacked buckle straps, a thick front lift and a tall block heel. Katseye took buckles to the Coachella stage, where custom Stand Oil boots split into several versions with buckle straps, lace panels, bows and softened shafts instead of one uniform boot.

The Abbey’s 35th anniversary party brought the West Hollywood LGBTQIA+ landmark — alluded to in Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” — back into pop orbit. Nicole Scherzinger attended in Pussycat Dolls merchandise and mesh Louboutins, while the night also included a Spice Girls tribute by Aquaria, Trinity the Tuck, Heidi N Closet, Vanjie and Sugar before Melanie C appeared in the DJ booth.
