The National Automobile Museum will offer free admission during a day of family activities, entertainment, and community events on Wednesday, July 8, giving visitors a chance to explore one of the nation’s premier automotive museums without paying admission.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Automobile Museum, 1 Museum Drive in Reno.

Along with free admission, guests can explore more than 150 historic cars and exhibits spanning more than a century of automotive history while taking part in activities throughout the day. Although admission is free, attendees are encouraged to register in advance.

The museum’s E.L. Wiegand Children’s Activity Center will offer hands-on crafts and activities for children. A balloon-twisting clown will be at the museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while food from Get Loaded and Kona Ice will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors can also meet Jeramie Lu during a photo opportunity from noon to 2 p.m., donate blood during a Vitalant blood drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and watch continuous screenings of the “Cars” movie trilogy in the museum theater.

The first 700 guests will receive free ice cream. Every registered attendee will also receive one free entry into a sweepstakes giveaway. Additional sweepstakes tickets will be available for purchase inside the museum on July 8. No purchase is necessary to enter or win; one free entry is allowed per person, and making a purchase does not increase the chances of winning.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the museum and Pet Network will host a pet adoption event with adoption fees covered by a sponsor to help more animals find homes.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring school supplies for the “Fill the Bus” drive benefiting Communities In Schools. Donations will fill the museum’s historic 1926 Chevy DeLuxe Depot Bus.

Families can also purchase a special family membership for $75, which includes unlimited museum admission for one year, admission for two adults and up to three children, and discounts on select museum events and programs.

“This free community event is our way of welcoming everyone to experience the National Automobile Museum,” said Museum President Phil MacDougall. “Whether you’re visiting for the first time, bringing the family, or rediscovering the collection, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while supporting organizations that make a difference in our community.”
