BYD upgrades Atto 3 with Flash Charging capability in China

BYD has sold the Atto 3 as the Yuan Plus in China since 2022. The model is now four and a half years old and is already receiving its second major update. Chinese media report that BYD unveiled the third-generation Atto 3 at an event this week after first presenting the revised model at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. The main innovation is the switch from the e-Platform 3.0 to the e-Platform 3.0 Evo.

The e-Platform 3.0 Evo builds on BYD’s proprietary e-Platform 3.0 electric vehicle architecture, which uses the company’s LFP-based Blade Battery. The updated platform features a higher level of integration, a more powerful drivetrain and improved charging performance. BYD has, for example, replaced the previous 8-in-1 drive system with a 12-in-1 drive unit that integrates four additional functions.

BYD will offer the updated Atto 3 in China in four variants priced between 119,900 and 149,900 yuan, or roughly 15,200 to 19,000 euros. According to CN EV Post, the entry-level version costs 4,100 yuan, or 3.5 per cent, more than the base version of the previous model. The Chinese specialist portal describes the increase as unusual in China’s highly competitive market.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Atto 3 has grown significantly, now measuring 4.67 x 1.90 x 1.68 metres with a wheelbase of 2.77 metres. Additionally, the compact electric SUV comes as standard with the second-generation Blade Battery technology, enabling so-called Flash Charging. This allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes.

The new Atto 3 comes with rear-wheel drive and power outputs of 200 or 240 kW, paired with battery capacities of 57.5 or 68.5 kWh. Depending on the configuration, the model offers CLTC ranges of 540 or 630 kilometres.

Except for the base version, customers can add the “God’s Eye B” driver assistance system with LiDAR for an extra 12,000 yuan, or around 1,520 euros. The updated model range also features the DiSus-C intelligent damping system, among other upgrades.

Inside, the updated compact SUV features a larger central display running the latest DiLink system, a new two-spoke steering wheel, a head-up display and a column-mounted gear selector.

On the outside, the new Atto 3 continues to use BYD’s Dragon Face design language, with a flatter front end, slim headlights, partially retractable door handles and a full-width rear light strip. BYD offers the model in nine paint finishes, including two-tone options.
