Kuala Lumpur has secured second place in Time Out’s global ranking of the world’s best street food cities

The Malaysian capital earned an impressive 62% approval rating from international food lovers.

It surpassed famous food hubs like Bangkok and Hanoi, finishing just behind Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

The British publication highlighted Jalan Alor’s lively night scene as a major reason for the high score

As night falls, the popular street comes alive with rows of open-air food stalls.

Diners sit on simple plastic chairs beneath glowing red lanterns as they tuck into their meals.

Visitors flock to the area to sample smoky charcoal-grilled satay, whole grilled fish, and char kway teow, among other local delights.

Malaysian food is famous around the world for its wide variety and complex flavours

The country’s rich history has created a unique mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European influences.

This blend produces iconic national dishes like nasi lemak, laksa, and roti canai. Each dish offers a balance of spicy, sweet, and sour notes that appeal to local and foreign diners alike.

In the global voting results, Ho Chi Minh City took first place with a 63% approval rating, barely ahead of Kuala Lumpur

Jakarta and Taipei shared third place with a 59% rating each. Mexico City and Manila tied for fifth place with 58%, followed by Hanoi at 57%. Johannesburg and Bangkok tied for eighth place with 56%, while Mumbai rounded out the top 10 with 55%.

The strong showing by Southeast Asian cities highlights the region’s growing reputation as a global food destination.

And yes, Singapore didn’t even make the top 10 (Sorry, I don’t make the rankings).
