Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seized the equipment of dozens of touts illegally charging people for photographs taken at tourist hotspots in the vicinity of PETRONAS Twin Towers during an enforcement exercise.
It issued 19 compounds and seized equipment belonging to 32 of them during the joint operation with the police and National Registration Department (JPN).
Enforcement teams carried out checks at several popular public locations including Pintasan Saloma, Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee.
In a statement, DBKL said the compounds were issued to 19 Malaysians found offering photography services without a permit at public places.
Equipment used by 13 foreigners was also seized during the operation.
Among the items confiscated were mobile phones, lights and gimbals.
The equipment were taken to DBKL’s storage for recording and further documentation.
Action was taken under the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur Hawkers Licensing By-Laws 2016.
The police and JPN officers also checked the identification documents of the 32 people under the National Registration Act 1959.
DBKL said it would continue to monitor public areas and take action against unauthorised photography services.
Such activities posed safety risks, inconvenienced visitors and disrupted pedestrian and traffic movement, especially at crowded tourist hotspots, added DBKL.
