From Jakarta, we send a message that peace is a shared responsibility that must be continuously upheld,
Jakarta (ANTARA) –
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said peace does not always emerge from major international forums, but begins within each individual through mutual respect, acceptance of differences, and commitment to live together in diversity.
He made the statement while attending the Sacred Reflection Night for World Peace at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Saturday, themed “A Sacred Night for World Peace and Global Harmony”.
He appreciated Gema Sadhana Organization for initiating an interfaith space. The event served as a platform for reflection, prayer, and strengthening humanitarian values amid ongoing challenges.
“In Hindu teachings, we recognize the noble value of Ahimsa, which is the principle of not causing harm, whether in thought, speech, or action. This value teaches that true strength does not lie in violence, but in love, empathy, and compassion,” he said in a press statement here on Sunday.
He also touched on the concept of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes the balance of relations between humans and God, fellow humans, and nature.
“We show the world that Indonesia is home to the values of tolerance, togetherness, and peace. From Jakarta, we send a message that peace is a shared responsibility that must be continuously upheld,” Anung said.
As a global city, he added, Jakarta has the responsibility to serve as a model in maintaining harmony amid diversity. For this reason, the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to strengthening unity and supporting interfaith and cultural activities.
“I invite all members of the public not to stop at ceremonies, but to make these values part of daily life; spreading humanity, strengthening brotherhood, and fostering peace starting from the smallest communities,” he said.
The Sacred Reflection Night for World Peace was also attended by Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty; Sri Lankan Ambassador to Indonesia Sashikala Premawardhane; and Gema Sadhana Chairperson Kobalen.
