BMKG Forecasts Light Rain Across Most of Indonesia on Sunday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted rain across most of Indonesia on Sunday, May 7, 2026.

BMKG forecaster Bintari, speaking on a YouTube channel followed in Jakarta, reported that, starting in Sumatra, the weather in Jambi City is predicted to be cloudy, while Padang, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, and Palembang will experience light rain.

“Medan City has the potential for moderate rain. Beware of thunderstorms that could affect Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, and Bandar Lampung,” she said.

Turning to Java, Surabaya is predicted to be cloudy, while Semarang will be cloudy. Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, and Yogyakarta are expected to be shrouded in thick clouds.

Furthermore, in Kalimantan, all major cities are expected to experience light rain, starting with Pontianak, Samarinda, Tanjung Selor, Palangkaraya, and Banjarmasin.

Moving to Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather in Mataram City is forecast to be sunny with clouds, Kupang City will be cloudy, and Denpasar will potentially be shrouded in thick clouds.

Furthermore, in Sulawesi, Kendari City is forecast to be cloudy, while Gorontalo and Makassar will be heavily overcast.

“Light rain is likely to fall in Palu and Manado, while Mamuju will experience moderate rain,” said Bintari.

In Maluku and North Maluku, Ambon City is forecast to be heavily overcast, while Ternate has the potential for light rain.

Moving to Papua, Jayapura City is forecast to be cloudy, while Manokwari and Merauke will be shrouded in thick clouds. Light rain is likely to fall in Sorong City and Jayawijaya, while Nabire City will experience moderate rain.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) also warned the public to be prepared for the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in North Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, and West Sulawesi.
