On the agenda

Guangzhou and Shanghai are seeking deeper cooperation in the cultural and tourism sectors, with an exchange event held in Shanghai aimed at creating a platform for two-way collaboration and promoting the integration of Guangzhou’s tourism resources with the Yangtze River Delta market, China Daily reported.

The event highlighted the development potential of Nansha district in Guangzhou, which is positioned at the geographic center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The district connects 11 cities within a 100-kilometer radius and benefits from improved transport links, including access to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, Guangzhou’s urban area, and Hong Kong’s West Kowloon.

Ouyang Jianhua, head of Nansha’s publicity department, said the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has strengthened the district’s role as a strategic transportation hub, improving connectivity across the Pearl River Estuary and accelerating the expansion of the regional cultural tourism market.

Nansha’s transport advantages place it within a one-hour travel circle covering five major international airports in the GBA, reaching a consumer market of more than 87 million people.

The district is also home to the Nansha port area of Guangzhou Port, which has become the second port area in China to surpass an annual container throughput of 20 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), following Shanghai’s Yangshan Port.

Officials said the enhanced connectivity and logistics capacity could further support tourism development, cultural exchanges, and economic cooperation between the two major cities. Times Reporter
