Katie Price’s husband Lee Andrews was reportedly arrested in Dubai for a different reason after claims he was being held on suspicion of ‘spying’ were disputed
Katie Price says she’s finally made contact with husband Lee Andrews after a two-week panic over his whereabouts and claims he told her he has been detained in Dubai on suspicion of spying.
The mum-of-five, 48, revealed she spoke to Lee, 43, for around two minutes this morning after his father Peter passed on details of where he was. Katie says the call came from Dubai’s Al Awir jail.
She said: “I have found him. He is alive, and he is OK. I told him how worried I had been and told him I loved him. It was very rushed, but he said the authorities out there thought he was a spy. I don’t know much more than that right now. I told him how worried I’d been and that I loved him.”
The brief call comes after Katie raised the alarm on May 13, saying Lee had been tied up, put in a van and taken to a “black site” after being “arrested”, sparking concern over his whereabouts in Dubai.
Lee is now said to be held at Al Awir prison after reportedly being detained on May 14. However, The Sun reported he is being held over a civil matter rather than spying allegations, and authorities have not confirmed any espionage charges. He is expected to be released on Monday, but will reportedly have to pay a four-figure fine.
Al Awir Central Prison is one of Dubai’s most notorious facilities, often described as the “Dubai Alcatraz”, and has faced criticism over conditions including overcrowding and poor treatment of inmates.
In the days before his disappearance, Lee had reportedly moved belongings out of his rental apartment and briefly stayed with his father in Dubai. His family later filed a missing person report through the British embassy.
The drama surrounding Lee has been building for weeks, with Katie previously telling fans she believed he had been “arrested” and was being investigated by authorities.
The situation also follows a string of controversy around Lee, who has previously faced accusations of fraud and exaggerating his CV claims, allegations he has denied or not publicly addressed in detail.
Katie’s contact with him marks the first confirmation she has had that he is alive since she went public with her concerns earlier this month, before briefly stepping back from updates and saying she would leave matters to police and the British consulate.
The couple married in Dubai in January shortly after meeting in person for the first time.
