The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has completed an extensive maintenance program for the ventilation and air conditioning systems in 62 metro trains to reduce malfunctions and maintain passenger comfort during months of extreme temperatures.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Keolis MHI, the company that operates the emirate’s metro and tram systems, have completed maintenance work on the ventilation and air conditioning systems aboard 62 metro trains.
The program is part of the RTA’s preventive maintenance strategy and aims to increase the reliability of the rolling stock, extend the service life of the equipment, and reduce the risk of breakdowns during operation.
Replaced Components and Performance Tests
The work included a detailed inspection of ventilation and air conditioning system components, the replacement of parts that had reached the end of their service life, and extensive performance testing.
According to the authority, these interventions should restore the systems to optimal cooling parameters and reduce the number of recurring malfunctions.
Air conditioning on trains is essential in Dubai, especially during the summer, when high outdoor temperatures place additional strain on onboard equipment.
The RTA estimates that the program will improve cooling efficiency and passenger comfort, as well as the trains’ ability to adhere to their daily schedule.
Work Carried Out Without Disrupting Traffic
Maintenance operations were scheduled outside of peak traffic periods so that metro service would not be affected.
All work was carried out in accordance with international railway industry standards and practices, according to the Dubai authority.
The RTA describes the project as an investment in fleet availability and the network’s operational resilience, aimed at maintaining safety and comfort standards for passengers.
Preventive maintenance to reduce future costs
The overhaul of the 62 trains is part of a broader maintenance program for the Dubai Metro’s infrastructure and rolling stock.
By inspecting and replacing components before major failures occur, the RTA aims to limit unplanned interventions and reduce the need for repairs in the long term.
The authority plans to continue introducing advanced engineering solutions and technologies to monitor equipment, improve asset performance, and maintain the reliability of one of Dubai’s main public transportation networks.
