US Envoy Launches ‘Freedom250’ Celebrations in New Delhi With Auto-Rickshaw Campaign

NEW DELHI — U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has launched “Freedom250” celebrations in the Indian capital, unveiling a fleet of brightly decorated auto-rickshaws featuring images of President Donald Trump and iconic American symbols to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

The rollout, announced by Gor on social media, marks the start of a broader campaign tied to the United States’ semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026 — the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

“Thrilled to kick-off the #Freedom250 celebrations from New Delhi, previewing vibrant autos featuring @POTUS and iconic American images that will be rolled out across the city to mark the start of this special journey,” Gor wrote. “As we celebrate America’s 250th, we also honor the strength and dynamism of the U.S.-India partnership. Stay tuned as #Freedom250 travels across India.”

The initiative is part of a yearlong series of events in the United States and abroad commemorating the milestone anniversary, with planned activities including public celebrations, fireworks, and educational programs highlighting American history and values.

In India, the campaign takes a localized approach, using auto-rickshaws — a common sight on New Delhi’s streets — as moving displays promoting American heritage. The decorated vehicles are expected to travel through the capital before expanding to other cities, aimed at engaging the public and highlighting ties between the two countries.

Gor, who presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu in January 2026, has emphasized strengthening cooperation between the United States and India in areas such as defense, trade, technology, critical minerals, and security.

The ambassador said the anniversary offers an opportunity to celebrate not only U.S. independence but also the growing strategic relationship between Washington and New Delhi, which officials from both countries have described as one of the most consequential partnerships of the 21st century.

The two nations have expanded collaboration in areas including supply chains, artificial intelligence, and regional security, while maintaining strong economic and cultural ties.

Officials indicated that additional events tied to the Freedom250 campaign are expected across India in the coming months as part of a broader global outreach effort.

The auto-rickshaw campaign is designed to spark public interest and conversation, with organizers hoping it will highlight shared democratic values and deepen awareness of the relationship between the United States and India.

The launch in New Delhi signals the start of what U.S. officials describe as a global celebration, with India playing a prominent role in showcasing the partnership between the two countries. (Source: IANS)
