New Delhi: A man has been arrested in Delhi’s Rohini area for allegedly repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and impregnating her, police said.
According to officials, the case came to light after the girl’s mother discovered that the minor was pregnant and questioned her. The girl allegedly revealed that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her multiple times over the past year.
Police from Begampur police station were alerted on Wednesday, following which a team, including women personnel, reached the residence and shifted the minor to a safe environment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Jaiswal said the girl reiterated during questioning that she had been repeatedly assaulted by her stepfather.
The minor was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed sexual assault and stated that she was around five months pregnant, police said.
A case has been registered under rape charges and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said the accused had fled the house after the allegations surfaced but was later tracked down and arrested from within Delhi following a search operation.
Investigators said the accused worked in the carton and cardboard manufacturing business and had been living with the victim and her mother for the past two to three years.
Authorities added that the mother, who works odd jobs, claimed she was unaware of the abuse. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
