An event promoting the United Kingdom as a study destination for Chinese students was held in Beijing on July 24, aiming to encourage people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

VFS Global hosted the event, titled “Inspiring UK Study,” in collaboration with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), the British Embassy in Beijing and the British Council in China.
British Ambassador to China Peter Wilson said the U.K. welcomes Chinese students, noting their high visa approval rate. He added that studying in the U.K. offers an open, international experience and that VFS Global provides efficient services for Chinese visitors.
“It is worth coming — studying in the U.K. is an open, fun and international experience,” he said. “Over a million students from across China have come to the U.K. to study. All of those who choose to come help us build our engagement with and understanding of China, too.”
Attendees included Nicholas Thomas, the British Council’s China director and minister for culture and education; Robin Humphris, head of the Asia Pacific region for UKVI’s International Network; and Nishant Bhatia, regional head of China, Mongolia and the RCIS at VFS Global. Also present were representatives from educational institutions, agencies, industry partners and U.K. alumni.
Thomas said the educational partnership between the U.K. and China continues to grow. An international education is often transformational, he noted, helping students build confidence, curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to see the world from different perspectives.
“Today’s students are looking for more than a degree; they are seeking the skills, experiences and international outlook that will help them thrive in a rapidly changing world, and that is exactly what studying in the U.K. can offer,” he said.
Bhatia said VFS Global’s two-decade partnership with UKVI and the British Embassy has helped a growing number of Chinese students pursue a U.K. education. The event aimed to deepen understanding of what a British education offers and encourage more students to take that path.
Three U.K. alumni shared how studying in the U.K. strengthened their academic foundations, professional skills and global networks.
VFS Global said it continues to work with UKVI to improve visa services through technology and service upgrades. With the U.K. remaining a top destination for Chinese students, the company pledged to continue supporting student mobility and fostering educational and cultural ties between the two countries.
