Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to discuss Türkiye-Japan relations as well as regional and global issues, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.
Erdogan said Türkiye would continue working to deepen ties with Japan across all areas, particularly in the defense industry, investment and trade.
Negotiations only path to resolve Iran-US conflict
During the call, Erdogan said negotiations were the only way to resolve the conflict between Iran and the U.S.
He said Türkiye supports diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability.
The two leaders also discussed broader regional and global developments, according to the Communications Directorate.
Condolences over deadly Kumamoto earthquake
Erdogan also renewed his condolences to Takaichi over those killed in the earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture last month.
The magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Uki and Hikawa areas near Kumamoto City on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu on July 28.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers and caused widespread damage across the prefecture, including fires and the collapse of roads and bridges.
The death toll rose to 35, according to prefectural officials cited by public broadcaster NHK.
