hazardous chemicals

The document specifies which chemicals may no longer be manufactured, sold, or used, and in which cases their use is permitted only under certain conditions. The purpose of the new rules is to reduce the risks these substances may pose to human health and the environment.

The list includes substances used in a wide range of products and economic activities, including the chemical industry, the production of plastics and rubber, textiles, footwear, toys, electrical and electronic equipment, the automotive industry, furniture, and building materials.

Substances covered by the new regulations include lead, cadmium, mercury, formaldehyde, certain phthalates, bisphenols, dyes, and other chemicals that may have adverse effects on health and the environment.

The new regulations will help reduce the exposure of the population to hazardous substances and improve the safety of products sold in Moldova. At the same time, they will promote the use of safer alternatives and reduce the impact of chemicals on ecosystems and biodiversity.

The implementation of these regulations will also enable economic operators to prepare for European Union market requirements by adopting standards similar to those in place in EU member states.

The list was developed by the Ministry of the Environment as part of the “Air Quality and Environment” Twinning project. The substances included in the list have already been assessed at the European level, and the proposed measures are aimed at ensuring a higher level of protection for public health and the environment in the Republic of Moldova.
