SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) — A suspect has been brought back to the United States after fleeing to Indonesia following the alleged killing of a man at a Sonic Drive-In three months ago.
Anthony Prioleau, 20, of Summerville, attempted to flee the country after allegedly shooting and killing 18-year-old Kymani Baker on Jan. 9.
Police say they learned that Prioleau left the state for Washington, D.C., exactly a week after the shooting. He then allegedly obtained a temporary passport and traveled to New York City, where he boarded an international flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport heading for Jakarta, Indonesia, Hirsch said.
The incident stemmed from a shooting outside Marco’s Pizza in Ladson involving a different group of suspects two days earlier; Baker was working there at the time. Police also discovered that Baker’s home was burglarized two weeks before the first shooting.
Two days later on Jan. 9, he was shot at the Sonic Drive-In on Dorchester Road just before 8:30 a.m., which sent Oakbrook Elementary and Oakbrook Middle schools into a lockdown.
Police took custody of Prioleau from U.S. Marshals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday after being in the custody of Indonesian authorities since mid-January. Hirsch said that when he allegedly disembarked his aircraft, he was approached by Indonesian immigration officers and fled on foot, but was later apprehended and taken into custody.
