Passengers affected as flight disruptions across Jakarta and Makassar resulted in a combined 169 delays and 13 cancellations. Jakarta–Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (10 cancellations, 114 delays) and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (3 cancellations, 55 delays) led the disruption totals. Among airlines, Batik Air (10 cancellations, 25 delays) and Garuda Indonesia (3 cancellations, 14 delays) were the most affected, while Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Citilink, and Indonesia AirAsia also recorded significant delays. Cities impacted include Jakarta and Makassar, with ripple effects across domestic routes.

  • April 19: A total of 169 delays and 13 cancellations were recorded across Jakarta and Makassar
  • Jakarta (CGK) saw the highest disruption volume with 114 delays and 10 cancellations
  • Makassar (UPG) reported 55 delays and 3 cancellations, significantly lower but still notable
  • Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia accounted for all cancellations across both airports
  • Lion Air group carriers dominated delay counts, especially in Makassar

Most Affected Airports

Jakarta–Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Jakarta experienced the highest level of disruption, driven largely by Batik Air, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Super Air Jet. Delays were widespread across multiple carriers, indicating operational congestion rather than isolated incidents.

Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport

Makassar saw moderate disruption levels, with Lion Air, Wings Abadi, and Batik Air contributing most significantly. Delays dominated the disruption profile, with minimal cancellations.

Airlines Most Affected by Flight Cancellations and Delays

Batik Air

Batik Air recorded the highest level of disruption overall, accounting for 10 cancellations and 25 delays across Jakarta and Makassar. It was the only airline with cancellations at both airports, making it the primary contributor to service interruptions.

Garuda Indonesia

Garuda Indonesia reported 3 cancellations and 14 delays, all concentrated at Jakarta. While its cancellation count was lower than Batik Air, it remained a key contributor to disruption at the country’s busiest hub.

Lion Air

Lion Air saw significant delay volumes, particularly in Makassar, where it dominated operational slowdowns. Despite having no cancellations, its high delay count made it one of the most affected carriers overall.

Super Air Jet

Super Air Jet experienced notable delays in Jakarta, contributing to congestion at Soekarno-Hatta. Its disruption profile remained delay-heavy with no cancellations reported.

Citilink

Citilink recorded moderate delays at Jakarta, reflecting operational strain but no cancellations. Its impact was smaller in scale but still relevant within the broader disruption pattern.

Indonesia AirAsia

Indonesia AirAsia faced delays at both Jakarta and Makassar, indicating network-wide operational pressure. However, it did not report any cancellations.

What Can Affected Passengers Do?

  • Check real-time flight status before heading to major airports such as Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta or Makassar, as delays can escalate quickly and schedules may change multiple times within short intervals
  • Stay in regular contact with airline customer support channels, including apps, helplines, and airport counters, to secure faster rebooking options or updated departure information
  • Arrive early at high-traffic hubs like Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to account for longer queues, rescheduling processes, and potential gate changes caused by ongoing disruptions
  • Keep both digital and printed copies of boarding passes, IDs, and travel documents readily accessible, as repeated verification may be required during disrupted operations
  • Closely monitor airport display boards and announcements, especially in busy terminals in Jakarta and Makassar, where gate assignments and boarding times may shift frequently
  • Maintain flexible travel plans where possible, including buffer time between connections, particularly when routing through congestion-prone airports like Jakarta
  • Pack essential items such as medications, chargers, and basic necessities in carry-on baggage to manage extended waiting times due to delays
  • Regularly check email and SMS notifications from airlines for real-time updates, as schedule adjustments may be communicated digitally before airport announcements

Overview of Flight Cancellations And Delays

Flight disruptions across Jakarta and Makassar highlight a delay-heavy operational strain, with cancellations remaining relatively limited. Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia were the only airlines responsible for cancellations, while Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia, and Wings Abadi contributed heavily to delay volumes.

In Jakarta, delays were distributed across a wide network of carriers, reflecting congestion at one of Southeast Asia’s busiest aviation hubs. Meanwhile, Makassar saw concentrated delays from fewer airlines, particularly Lion Air group operations.

The repeated disruption patterns across Jakarta and Makassar suggest systemic scheduling or air traffic pressures rather than isolated airline failures. With both cities appearing multiple times in disruption reports, passengers traveling through these routes faced consistent delays throughout the day.
