Jakarta. Indonesian and Chinese police have repatriated four wanted fugitives under a joint law enforcement effort coordinated through Interpol, a senior officer said on Tuesday.

As part of the operation, Indonesia’s National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol returned three Chinese fugitives who had fled to Indonesia, while Chinese authorities repatriated one Indonesian fugitive wanted in a fraud case, said Untung Widyatmoko, secretary of the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police.

“The repatriation of these fugitives reflects the commitment of NCB Interpol Indonesia to strengthening international cooperation so that criminal suspects have no safe haven from the legal process,” Untung said in a statement.

The three Chinese fugitives, identified only by the initials ZR, LZ, and HZ, were returned in stages. ZR and LZ arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on July 10, while HZ was repatriated a day later.

After arriving in China, the three were handed over to Chinese police together with evidence related to their respective cases.

Meanwhile, Indonesian fugitive KT, who is wanted in connection with an alleged fraud case, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport near Jakarta on July 13 after being returned by Chinese authorities.

Untung said the operation highlighted the strong cooperation between Indonesian and Chinese police.

“Close cooperation with the police of the People’s Republic of China was key to ensuring that the repatriations were carried out smoothly, safely, and in accordance with applicable legal procedures,” he said.

He added that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of Interpol’s international network in supporting cross-border law enforcement and said Indonesia would continue strengthening cooperation with fellow Interpol members to track down fugitives who flee overseas.
