Brazil’s Unicamp is prepared to host up to 10 Indonesian graduate students as the two countries explore cooperation in semiconductors, aerospace and biofuels.

Indonesia and Brazil are expanding cooperation in strategic technology sectors, with semiconductor talent development emerging as a key focus.

During a meeting in Jakarta on June 12, Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto welcomed plans for closer collaboration between Indonesian universities and Brazil’s State University of Campinas (Unicamp).

“We are pleased with the growing partnership between Indonesia and Brazil and hope cooperation between Unicamp and Indonesian universities delivers tangible benefits for both countries,” Yuliarto said.

Unicamp opens semiconductor training opportunities

Brazilian Deputy Chief of Mission to Indonesia Rodrigo Alexandre Oliveira de Carvalho said Unicamp is ready to accommodate up to 10 Indonesian graduate students through a partnership with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

The program will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and integrated circuit development, supporting Indonesia’s efforts to build expertise in advanced technology industries.

Unicamp representative Marco Roberto Cavallari said Indonesian master’s and doctoral students would have opportunities to study microfabrication, integrated circuit design and materials science.

Cooperation expands beyond semiconductors

The two countries are also exploring cooperation in aerospace engineering and biofuels, areas where Brazil has established significant expertise.

Brazil is considering the involvement of Embraer as discussions continue on a bilateral education cooperation agreement.

The partnership could also pave the way for joint research projects and a potential double-degree program between Unicamp and ITB.
