Bali. In a significant development that underscores a New India’s growing stature as a defence technology powerhouse, Nitrodynamics Aerospace and Defence Private Limited (Nitrodynamics), a Greater Noida-based Indian defence and aerospace company, and PT BTI Indo Tekno (BTI-Defence), an Indonesian defence systems integration firm headquartered in Surabaya, East Java, on July 15 signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ASEAN India Scaleup Hub 2026 in Bali, Indonesia.
The agreement, signed in the presence of industry leaders and government representatives at one of the Indo-Pacific’s foremost platforms for India-ASEAN business engagement, lays out a five-year framework for joint development, integration, manufacturing, and commercialisation of advanced defence and aerospace systems across India, Indonesia, and the wider ASEAN region.
A Symbol of India’s Defence Transformation
The MoU arrives at a moment when India’s defence industrial base is undergoing a generational shift. Once the world’s largest defence importer, the country has, under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, built a formidable ecosystem of indigenous defence startups, research laboratories, and technology firms now competing at the cutting edge of global defence innovation.
Nitrodynamics is a product of precisely this transformation. The company designs and manufactures advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) platforms, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Counter-UAS solutions, AESA radar systems, and Military AI-driven Command and Control (C2) architectures – capabilities that until recently were the exclusive preserve of a handful of established Western and Israeli defence primes.
That an ASEAN defence partner has chosen to formalise a long-term strategic tie-up with an Indian company across these high-end technology domains speaks volumes about the credibility India’s defence sector now commands internationally.
Product Coverage under the MoU
The partnership spans six critical technology domains:
- Electronic Warfare (EW) – ELINT, COMINT, SIGINT, Electronic Support Measures (ESM), and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM)
- Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) – UAV-based, airborne, ground-based, and maritime surveillance systems
- Radar Technologies – AESA radars, surveillance radars, counter-UAS radars, and tactical radar solutions
- Unmanned Systems – UAV platforms, drone payloads, counter-drone systems, and autonomous platforms
- Military AI & Software – AI-enabled C2 systems, data fusion platforms, and decision support tools
- Technology Localisation – Local manufacturing, assembly, integration, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) in Indonesia
Anupam Prasad, Chief Executive Officer of Nitrodynamics, described the moment as emblematic of India’s arrival on the global defence stage, “This MoU with BTI-Defence is a proud moment for Nitrodynamics and for Indian defence technology at large. We have built world-class capabilities in Electronic Warfare, SIGINT, radar systems, unmanned platforms, and military AI – entirely through Indian ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of technological excellence. New India is no longer just a market for global defence majors; it is a trusted source of sovereign, battle-ready solutions. Our partnership with BTI-Defence opens a strategic gateway into Indonesia and the broader ASEAN market, and we are excited to demonstrate what India’s next generation of defence innovators can deliver to our partners in the region.”
Beyond technology transfer, the two companies have agreed to jointly pursue defence procurement tenders, co-exhibit at international defence shows, conduct joint R&D, and build local manufacturing and maintenance capabilities in Indonesia, aligning with Jakarta’s own defence indigenisation ambitions.
Expressing confidence in the partnership’s potential to reshape regional defence capabilities, Peter Tjahjono, Director of BTI-Defence, said, “India’s emergence as a formidable force in defence technology is something we in ASEAN are watching with great admiration. Nitrodynamics’ portfolio – spanning Electronic Warfare, ISR, radar, and AI-enabled C2 systems – directly addresses the capability needs of Indonesia and the wider ASEAN defence community. We are confident that this MoU will translate into tangible, long-term value for Indonesia’s defence forces and contribute meaningfully to strengthening the collective security architecture of our region.”
The signing at the ASEAN India Scaleup Hub 2026 is no coincidence. The forum, held annually as a flagship platform for India-ASEAN technology and business collaboration, has emerged as one of the most important meeting grounds for Indian entrepreneurs and their Southeast Asian counterparts. Choosing this venue signals that defence technology is now firmly embedded in the broader India-ASEAN economic and strategic engagement.
India and Indonesia are the largest democracies in South Asia and Southeast Asia respectively, and two of the fastest-growing economies in the Indo-Pacific. The countries share a natural strategic alignment shaped by maritime geography, democratic governance, and a mutual stake in a free, open regional order. This MoU channels that alignment into concrete, technology-driven collaboration with implications for both bilateral defence ties and the wider ASEAN security architecture.
