Hong Kong recorded a 14 percent year-on-year increase in visitor arrivals from January to May, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The HKTB said in a statement on Monday that the city saw around 23 million visitors during the first five months of the year.

They included 17.67 million arrivals from the Chinese mainland while non-mainland visitors totalled 5.32 million, representing year-on-year increases of 16 percent and 7 percent, respectively, HKTB said.

It added that cumulative long-haul visitor arrivals for the first five months of 2026 also increased by 20 percent year-on-year.

In May, the number of visitor arrivals rose 9 percent to approximately 4.46 million, with visitors from long-haul markets increasing by 22 percent year-on-year during the month, the HKTB said.

On the other hand, arrivals from short-haul markets experienced fluctuations in May, primarily due to the situation in the Middle East, rising oil prices and a reduction in flight capacity, it added.

The HKTB said it has launched its “Hong Kong Summer Fun” promotion campaign and will distribute hundreds of thousands of “Summer Deals” covering attractions, dining, transport and shopping to attract more overnight visitors to the city.
