Hong Kong cycling coach lauds team’s UCI Track World Cup showing despite fruitless day

Hong Kong head coach Herve Dagorne praised the performance of the city’s riders despite finishing Saturday empty-handed at the UCI Track World Cup.

Across four events at the Hong Kong Velodrome, Ceci Lee Sze-wing and Chloe Leung Wing-yee competed in the women’s Madison but failed to secure a second medal for the team.

Meanwhile, To Cheuk-hei delivered a strong performance in the men’s Keirin, finishing fifth in the final to record a best-ever result for a Hong Kong rider in the event.

Dagorne said there had been “good moments”, and the Frenchman was particularly pleased with the 26-year-old To qualifying for the final.

“[It was] at this level of performance with, I would say, all the best riders of the world. It’s a real, real, real performance,” Dagorne said.

He noted that To passed the “fastest man in the world”, European champion Matt Richardson, in the semi-final. “So this is a very positive moment of the day. This is the highlight,” the coach added.
