The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has strongly condemned what it described as misleading and coordinated media campaigns targeting the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, rejecting allegations aimed at undermining the two countries’ role in promoting regional security and stability.
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi said the claims lacked credibility and objective foundations and were designed to weaken the sincere efforts undertaken by GCC member states to reinforce security, stability, dialogue and cooperation across the region.
He stressed that both the UAE and Qatar had, over recent years, presented a leading model in supporting regional stability through active diplomatic engagement, efforts to bridge differences between parties, and cooperation with international partners to address regional crises and challenges.
“Over the past years, the UAE and the State of Qatar have provided a pioneering model in adopting policies that support regional stability through their active contributions to bridging views, supporting diplomatic endeavours, and enhancing international cooperation to address the challenges and crises facing the region,” Budaiwi said.
He added that such policies reflected a responsible approach aimed at strengthening security and advancing development and prosperity for the peoples of the region.
The GCC Secretary-General reaffirmed the bloc’s full solidarity with both countries in the face of attempts to damage their international standing or diminish their diplomatic and development achievements.
He stressed that the GCC states remain committed to a collective approach based on stability and cooperation, while categorically rejecting media campaigns directed against any of its members.
Budaiwi said such efforts would not affect Gulf cohesion or unity, nor weaken the determination of GCC countries to continue playing a pivotal role in supporting regional and international peace, security and prosperity.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows a series of reports and allegations directed at both the UAE and Qatar, which Gulf officials say are intended to cast doubt on their policies and diplomatic initiatives.
The GCC reiterated that the security, stability and reputation of its member states remain indivisible and that collective Gulf solidarity remains essential in confronting external challenges and attempts to undermine the region’s interests.
