ASEAN Highlights Actionable Information Systems in Humanitarian Mine Action Workshop in Jakarta

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn underscored the importance of effective information systems in strengthening humanitarian mine action and turning data into practical outcomes.

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn delivered the opening remarks at the Regional Workshop on Humanitarian Mine Action in ASEAN, held in Jakarta. The workshop was organised by the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC), with support from the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).

In his remarks, Dr. Kao highlighted the critical role of information systems in humanitarian mine action, particularly in supporting informed decision-making and strengthening regional cooperation. He stressed that reliable information is essential in addressing the complex challenges associated with landmines and explosive remnants of war.

Dr. Kao also emphasised the importance of moving beyond the collection and management of information. He called for information to be transformed into impactful and actionable outcomes that can contribute meaningfully to humanitarian efforts and improve responses on the ground.

The regional workshop brings together relevant stakeholders to exchange knowledge, experiences and best practices in humanitarian mine action across ASEAN. Such cooperation supports the region’s efforts to enhance capacity, strengthen information management and promote more effective humanitarian responses.

The event reflects ASEAN’s continued commitment to regional collaboration on humanitarian mine action, while reinforcing the importance of practical, evidence-based approaches in addressing the challenges posed by landmines and explosive remnants of war.
