We’ve developed an open-source tool called the Global Inventory Compiler (GIC). It supports analysis of large-scale chemical information from regulatory systems around the world.
The tool can help researchers and policymakers to identify chemicals of concern. It helps to:
- outline international regulatory approaches
- support environmental risk assessment and decision-making.
The GIC underpins our department’s Australian Regulatory Cheminformatics Engine (ARChIE). This is an internal capability, supporting:
- chemical risk assessment
- prioritisation across government.
The capability has attracted growing international interest. It’s currently used in university research to support environmental and human health monitoring.
The open-source tool helps researchers and regulators to share knowledge. It also supports innovative ways to analyse chemical data.
