THE Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has intensified its environmental enforcement drive with a coordinated operation targeting iron and steel manufacturing companies located within the Odogunyan Industrial Layout, Ikorodu, Lagos, over persistent environmental violations.
The enforcement exercise, carried out by the Agency’s Enforcement Team, was in line with the directive of the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, as part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring strict compliance with environmental regulations.
The affected companies include Germini Steel Nigeria Limited, Top Steel Nigeria Limited, Pulkit Alloy Nigeria Limited, Landcraft Steel Nigeria Limited, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Limited, and African Steel Nigeria Limited.
The enforcement followed the discovery of several environmental infractions, including the emission of brown dust, black dust, mill scale, shredded dust, dead dust and non-metallic particulate matter, all of which pose significant risks to air quality, public health, and the surrounding environment.
Speaking on the enforcement exercise, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reiterated the Agency’s unwavering commitment to enforcing environmental laws across Lagos State.
He stressed that industrial operators must adopt sustainable production processes and install effective pollution control measures to prevent harmful emissions into the environment.
Dr. Ajayi noted that the Lagos State Government remains resolute in its determination to protect residents from the adverse effects of industrial pollution and will continue to take decisive action against facilities that fail to comply with established environmental standards.
He further urged all industries operating within the state to prioritize environmental responsibility by adhering strictly to regulatory requirements, emphasizing that compliance is essential for sustainable industrial growth and the well-being of Lagos residents.
