DEPUTY Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said there have been no discussions yet with Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, regarding the General Election (GE).
He believes that Anwar will take into account the end date of the Parliament’s term to hold a GE if the country’s geopolitical situation changes.
“In my opinion, if geopolitics changes, of course, the end date of the parliamentary term will be taken into account by the Prime Minister to hold negotiations with us.
“However, it is subject to the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to agree whether the dissolution can be done earlier or otherwise,” he said.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister, who is also BN Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, expected the GE to be held earlier, besides confirming that he would contest to defend the Rembau parliamentary seat.
Mohamad reportedly said that there was a possibility that Parliament could be dissolved as early as the end of this year if the Prime Minister felt the situation was suitable to do so. – July 26, 2026
