Berlin demanded urgent explanations after reports of secret training, warning that any assistance to Russia could threaten European security.

Germany held urgent talks with the Chinese ambassador to Germany over reports that China is training Russian troops. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office confirmed this information, which Spiegel had previously published.

This came two days after Reuters published information that China secretly trained about 200 Russian servicemen on Chinese territory with the personal approval of the Russian Defense Minister.

The Chinese embassy could not be reached for comment on Friday, but had previously described the accusations as unfounded, Reuters reports.

Reactions and Next Steps

Everything that allows Russia to continue its aggressive war against Ukraine also threatens our security.

– a source at the German Foreign Office

According to Reuters, at the end of last year the Chinese armed forces secretly trained about 200 Russian servicemen on Chinese soil, with some of them later returning to fight on the Ukrainian front.

This development underscores the tension in Berlin’s relations with Beijing and highlights the role of training as a factor shaping actions in the region and the security situation in Europe.
