Indonesia forms K3P committee to maximize demographic dividend

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Population and Family Development, in collaboration with other ministries, is preparing to establish the Employment and Education Sector Policy (K3P) Committee to optimize Indonesia’s demographic dividend.

The ministry’s secretary, Budi Setiyono, stated that his ministry is holding cross-ministerial and interagency discussions to implement the Population Development Roadmap within the employment and education sectors.

“This collaboration is designed to support the framework being established by President Prabowo, enabling Indonesia to accelerate its transition toward a developed nation and support the target of achieving 8 percent economic growth,” he said in an official statement on Saturday.

He explained that the roadmap is designed to maximize the demographic dividend, ensuring the surplus of the working-age population is optimally utilized.

Therefore, the Ministry of Population and Family Development is initiating a joint action plan across both sectors to accurately map workforce availability, required skills, and labor market absorption capacity through the K3P Committee.

According to him, the 8 percent economic growth target can only be achieved if there is alignment between the education and employment sectors. Therefore, precise end-to-end calculations are vital to ensure the working-age population is fully absorbed into the workforce.

Meanwhile, Anwar Sanusi, head of the Ministry of Manpower’s Labor Planning and Development Agency, noted that the future workforce landscape remains highly dynamic.

Challenges that need to be addressed include skills mismatches, managing the informal sector, and navigating the rise of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), which are driving shifts toward new types of jobs.

“Drafting an employment outlook is critical as an instrument to navigate the future job market landscape. The data can be used by ministries, agencies, and regional governments in preparing targeted employment policies,” he said.

Responding to the collaborative action, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, M Samsuri, underscored the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration to prepare a future curriculum that is adaptive to developments in the world of work.

He also emphasized the importance of optimizing higher education, particularly vocational education, to serve as a bridge for collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower’s Job Training Centers. This is expected to create alignment between university human resources and actual industry demands.

Echoing this sentiment, Sidik Herman, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry’s Industrial Human Resources Development Agency, expressed full support for this cross-ministerial and institutional collaboration.

He stated that his agency is committed to ensuring the industrial sector plays an active role and makes a tangible contribution to the success of this major program, which is projected to become a key national agenda.
