Our AI banking partnership with Google Cloud

We’ve announced a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud to build and deploy AI capabilities across our operations globally.

The partnership will aim to accelerate innovation in areas such as hyper-personalised wealth management advice for customers and financial crime risk management.

We’ll work with Google Cloud and Google DeepMind engineering teams to collaborate on new AI-powered tools and programmes, with access to Google’s latest agentic AI capabilities, including Gemini models and the Gemini Enterprise Agent platforms.

The programme is expected to enable 200+ new AI use cases over the next two years, while supporting the identification and prioritisation of the highest-value initiatives at HSBC – the benefit value of which could top US$100 million.

Why it matters

“AI is becoming one of the defining technologies of our time, allowing us to create a personalised experience for each customer, delivered in real time and at scale, while keeping human judgement, decision-making and accountability at the core,” said Georges Elhedery, our Group CEO.

“A partnership like this one helps us empower our colleagues with the tools they need to be future-ready, and supports our work in building a simple, agile, faster, and more personal HSBC.”

Strength and ambition shine through at our GCC conference

One event, four days and more than 3,000 meetings in London.

Our fifth HSBC GCC Exchanges Conference brought together global institutional investors and the Gulf Cooperation Council’s leading listed companies, exchanges, market authorities and policymakers.

Stock exchanges with a combined market capitalisation of approximately US$2.4 trillion were represented – and discussions focused on the region’s long-term growth outlook, capital markets development, energy and infrastructure investment, supply chains, and the evolving global investment landscape.

Architect Lord Norman Foster revisits our Hong Kong HQ

Lord Norman Foster, the architect of 1 Queen’s Road Central, returned to the building 40 years after it opened – and reflected on how its “radical” concept inspired future developments.

While touring the building, he explained how its construction challenged the traditional office building concept and was a beacon for the future.

“The brief was to create the best bank building in the world – that was about Hong Kong, it was about the bank, and about the community,” said Lord Foster, who is 92.

As the design evolved, he consulted with the bank’s executives on their priorities, a feng shui expert and incorporated emerging ideas of sustainability, including seawater cooling.

“The big move was to take everything out of the heart of the space and to move it to one side to create open loft spaces; to celebrate the views to the Peak and water and offer uninterrupted lines of sight,” he added.

He spoke about creating an elevated, central banking hall that allowed pedestrians to flow underneath.

“That’s been a very enduring aspect of the project and it’s as alive and well today as it was on the drawing board. It invited the community to use it as an urban shortcut, which ended up being a significant bonus.”
