Parking rage: Minor stabs woman to death, critically injures husband in front of 5-year-old son in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Parking rage claimed another life in the city when a 26-year-old woman was savagely stabbed to death and her husband critically injured in an orgy of violence that unfolded in front of the couple’s five-year-old son in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Saturday. The accused is a juvenile — a neighbour and distant relative of the victims — who objected to a motorcycle being parked at a spot where his father kept a food cart. The minor has been apprehended and his father arrested.

The dispute spiralled into tragedy when the accused began shouting and banging on the motorcycle, demanding it be moved, the victim’s family said. The woman, who worked as a domestic help in nearby homes, stepped out to talk to the boy. An argument followed during which the minor stabbed her in the stomach.‘Minor’s father was present and encouraging him during attack’The woman’s husband, who works as a security guard, was also stabbed and remains hospitalised in critical condition. It was his weekly off and he had just washed his motorcycle and parked it on the street before joining his family inside. His wife had returned home for lunch around 1.30pm after work.

The accused minor boy is a distant relative of the injured husband. The man’s elder brother also sustained minor injuries while trying to save the couple, their family added.“The neighbour’s son started calling out to them, banging on the motorcycle and demanding that it be moved so his father could park a food cart there,” said the couple’s 28-year-old sister-in-law. The motorcycle stood parked on the main road opposite the neighbour’s house, near the narrow lane where the couple lived, on Sunday morning. She added that the woman stepped outside to settle the matter but the argument escalated. Hearing the commotion, her husband rushed out, while their son also ran outside. The boy allegedly stabbed the husband five to six times in the upper body. “The boy’s father was present and was encouraging him during the attack,” the relative alleged. “My elder brother-in-law tried to intervene, but he too was attacked before the boy fled.”Police said a PCR call regarding the stabbing was received around 2.50pm. By the time officers reached the spot, the victims had been taken to a nearby hospital by family members. Doctors declared the woman brought dead, while her husband was admitted for treatment. A case was registered. The sister-in-law, who runs afood cart herself, claimed that the accused minor boy had previously threatened her as well to move her cart from the same spot. “When I moved it and my brother-in-law parked his bike, parts of his vehicle started getting mysteriously damaged,” she further claimed.Relatives said neither the child nor the injured man has been informed of the woman’s death. The woman’s sister said, “The parents of the boy worked to make ends meet and send him to a private school. As the father will be out of work, who will care for him now?” The woman’s death is the fourth in the family in the past two years. The child’s paternal grandparents and a paternal uncle had died recently.
