Spring Airlines Launches Direct Flights from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Jakarta

The Guangzhou route is already well served – China Southern Airlines operates 14 direct flights a week between Guangzhou and Jakarta while Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda operates the route up to four times a week.

The cheapest round-trip nonstop fares on the route currently start at around US$308 with Spring, compared with full-service fares from China Southern that start from around US$385 for a round-trip and around US$1,300 for business class.

Indonesian low cost carrier TransNusa also flies direct between Guangzhou and Jakarta, with fares starting from around US$330.

Until this week, China Southern was the only carrier flying the Jakarta-Shenzhen route nonstop, with one daily service. China Southern’s cheapest economy round-trip on the route currently starts at around US$385, with business class also around US$1,300.

Spring’s roundtrip fares on the route are appearing from US$350, making it a slightly cheaper option for travellers who can work around the twice-weekly schedule.

Travellers should note the usual LCC caveats like no checked baggage and no meals, meaning add-ons can close the price gap with full-service options. Those prioritising lounge access or earning miles on an alliance programme may still find the established carriers more practical.
