Zeekr Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DC Handal to expand the EV charging ecosystem in Malaysia.

The collaboration will see Zeekr leveraging on DC Handal’s charging network to offer Zeekr Power charging facilities nationwide, with an initial focus on improving charging access along the North-South Expressway.

According to Zeekr Malaysia, the partnership is aimed at enhancing the EV ownership experience for its more than 4,000 customers in Malaysia by providing greater access to charging infrastructure at strategic locations across the country.

Zeekr Malaysia and DC Handal to focus on highway charging

Under the first phase of the collaboration, Zeekr Malaysia and DC Handal will focus on providing seven EV charging locations to support Malaysia’s North-South Expressway. These locations will have a minimum of two charging points and a minimum output of 120kW.

The companies said the initiative is intended to improve convenience for long-distance EV travel while supporting the growing adoption of electric mobility in Malaysia. Further expansion is planned in subsequent phases.

It is stated that DC Handal’s latest superfast DC charging stations can deliver up to 400kW of charging power, with selected chargers having the potential to support up to 640kW in the future with 1.2MW power capacity.

DC Handal currently operates 250 charging points across Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.

Zeekr Malaysia General Manager Eddy Lu said, “At Zeekr, we are committed to delivering a holistic ownership experience that goes beyond the vehicle. This collaboration with DC Handal allows us to enhance our Zeekr Power ecosystem by expanding access to high-quality charging infrastructure at key locations. It is an important step towards ensuring our customers enjoy a seamless and premium electric mobility experience, whether in the city or on long-distance journeys.”

Meanwhile DC Handal’s Chief Technology Officer Esa Fawsal Salleh said, “This collaboration with Zeekr Malaysia allows us to play a central role in supporting Malaysia’s sustainable mobility sector by expanding its high-speed EV charging infrastructure and providing our customers with a speedy and seamless charging experience.”

The MoU was signed by Zeekr Malaysia Head of Product Loh Yan Teng and DC Handal Chief Technical Officer Esa Fawsal Salleh, and witnessed by Zeekr Malaysia General Manager Eddy Lu and DC Handal’s Lim Kok Keong.

Zeekr Power operates over 860 ultra-fast chargers in China

The collaboration is part of Zeekr’s broader Zeekr Power infrastructure strategy, which aims to provide a more seamless and premium customer journey.

Zeekr said its Zeekr Power network has revolutionised the ultra-fast charging ecosystem in the 800V era. It claims to operate the largest automaker-led ultra-fast charging network in China with 860 800V ultra-fast charging stations, 4,134 chargers and 1,536 fast-charging stations across 183 cities in China.

The company added that Zeekr Power is also connected to approximately 1.12 million third-party public chargers across China, providing 100% network coverage in China’s prefecture-level cities nationwide. It added that they are entering the megawatt era with its latest-generation V4 chargers that can provide 1.2MW of power.
