Laura Akram Crowned WBC Asia Champion After Strident TKO Victory in Bangkok
At the World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, the reigning OPBF 130-pound titleholder, Laura Akram (5-0, 4 KOs), won the vacant WBC Asia Female Featherweight Championship via a fifth round TKO.
She overcame the previously undefeated Thai fighter Pimlapat Roikaew (4-1, 1 KO).
The matchup generated great anticipation among local fans, as Roikaew is considered one of Thailand’s most significant emerging stars in both boxing and Muay Thai—a discipline in which she recently won a gold medal at the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
However, inside the ring, Akram’s experience and aggressiveness dictated the pace of the fight. From the opening bell, the champion applied incessant pressure on the Thai challenger. After four rounds of clear dominance, the judges’ scorecards reflected Akram’s superiority with scores of 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37. The moment arrived in the fifth round, when Akram intensified her assault with a one-sided offensive that forced the referee to halt the contest at the 1:35 mark.
In the other co-feature of the evening, WBC Asia #8 ranked cruiserweight Nurbek Valizhonov (7-0, 7 KOs) maintained his perfect knockout record by defeating former champion Panya Chompoophuang (24-18-1, 13 KOs).
The event was organized under the promotion of Taweesin Laosuwanwat (TL Boxing Promotion) and Khashaiar Ghassemi (Fair Square Boxing Promotions), consolidating the growth of high-level boxing in the Asian region.
