Glasgow ‘chemical incident’ sparks evacuation as public told to avoid area

Police were called out to the Lenzie Terrace property this afternoon and said nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.

A ‘chemical incident’ at a property in Glasgow has an evacuation by emergency services.

The incident is understood to have taken place at a property on Lenzie Terrace in Glasgow.

It was reported at around 3.30pm on Sunday. Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Attended.

Police said nearby properties had been evacuated as a precaution, and the public has been asked to avoid the area.

One resident told the Daily Record: “The street is completely blocked off and some of us aren’t even allowed to leave the house.”

It is not clear if anyone has been injured in the incident, with emergency services still on scene at 6.20pm

A statement from Police Scotland said: “Emergency services are in attendance at a chemical incident at a property on Lenzie Terrace in Glasgow, which was reported around 3.30pm on Sunday, 31 May, 2026.

“Nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution, and the public is asked to avoid the area.

“Anyone who requires assistance can approach officers at the scene or call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1991 of 31 May, 2026.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they had three appliances and a specialist unit at the scene.eee
