TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police have scheduled the examination of several witnesses on Monday, May 4, 2026, in the case of a train crash between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Commuter Line train or Electric Train (KRL) at the East Bekasi Station in Indonesia.

“The investigators will also request information from the Spatial Planning Agency, Public Works Agency, the Green SM taxi company, and the Directorate General of Railways,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police Grand Commissioner Budi Hermanto when contacted on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

He explained that the examination is to complete the investigation process. This will enable the investigators to obtain a comprehensive and objective overview of the events.

“So far, the investigators have gathered information from 31 individuals,” said Budi. Among these dozens of witnesses are the report filer, taxi drivers, barrier guards, witnesses around the location, victims, PT KAI operational staff, and others directly involved in the event.

The collision between the trains occurred at the East Bekasi Station crossing on Monday, April 27, 2026, around 8:57 PM local time. At that time, the KRL from Kampung Bandan to Cikarang was rear-ended by the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek traveling from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi at high speed.

The incident began when a Green SM online taxi experienced an electrical short circuit in the middle of the train crossing, not far from the East Bekasi Station. The Chief of the Police Traffic Accident Data Collection, Processing, and Analysis Section Commissioner Sandhi Wiedyanoe stated that this event triggered the initial collision on the track. “This resulted in a collision involving the train and the vehicle,” said Sandhi.

As a result of the incident, the journey of the Commuter Line train from Kampung Bandan to Cikarang was halted at the East Bekasi Station. Unfortunately, at the same time, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train was approaching from behind on the same track. “At a speed of 110 kilometers per hour,” said Sandhi.

The body of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train eventually penetrated the body of the Commuter Line train, plowing through the women’s-only coach. Over a dozen of passengers inside the coach became victims after being trapped by the train’s body.
