Indonesia to receive Russian crude soon, minister says

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia will soon receive crude oil from Russia as part of efforts to maintain national energy supply security amid global geopolitical dynamics, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said on Saturday.

The move is also part of the realization of a commitment to import 150 million barrels of oil from Russia, which will be carried out gradually until the end of 2026.

Speaking in Jakarta, Lahadalia emphasized that the government is currently prioritizing the availability of all types of fuel to meet the needs of the public and industry.

“For me, the most important thing is that all our stocks are available. And for Russian crude oil, it will be arriving soon,” he stated.

However, Lahadalia did not specify the volume of the initial shipment or which domestic refineries would process the crude.

He said the government is focused on ensuring the availability of various types of fuel, ranging from diesel to gasoline with different octane levels, amid ongoing global uncertainty.

According to him, in the current global geopolitical situation, the country must prioritize energy supply security before taking further steps related to other energy policies.

“In a situation like this, the country must ensure the availability of all types of fuel. That is far more important,” he added.

Regarding the mechanism and pricing of Russian crude oil imports, the minister noted that these will be handled on a business-to-business basis.

In addition to crude oil, the government is also exploring the possibility of importing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia. However, according to Lahadalia, this plan is still under discussion.

He assured that the national LPG stock is currently above the minimum required level.
