If you’re heading into the city soon, expect some major traffic changes around Bukit Bintang

Roads in the area will be closed in stages starting 22 April 2026, ahead of a full road shutdown from 29 April to 2 May in conjunction with the World Labour Day Celebration and Rain Rave Water Music Festival.

The events, which run from 30 April to 2 May, are part of Visit Malaysia 2026 activities and are expected to draw large crowds into the city centre.

From 22 to 28 April, Jalan Bukit Bintang will be partially closed at night:

  • Weekdays: 11pm to 5am
  • The weekend (25 & 26 April): 12am to 7am

These phased closures are in place to support event setup and logistics.

From 29 April to 2 May, Jalan Bukit Bintang will be fully closed to all vehicles throughout the day

Traffic will be redirected to nearby routes, including Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, and Jalan Imbi.

Authorities are urging the public to plan ahead and use public transport where possible, with MRT, LRT and monorail services expected to carry higher passenger volumes during the event period.

If you’re driving into the city, it’s probably a good idea to give yourself extra travel time, or avoid the area altogether to minimise congestion.
