Australia’s Aviair and Nexus Airlines win US$3.6mn gov’t aid

The government of Western Australia will invest more than AUD5 million Australian dollars (USD3.6 million) in its 2026-2027 state budget to subsidise regional routes of Aviair (GD, Kununurra) and Nexus Airlines (GD, Kununurra).

According to a government press release, Nexus Airlines will receive AUD3.8 million (USD2.7 million) for the Inter-Regional Flight Network (IRFN), which provides direct air links between Geraldton, WA, Karratha, Port Hedland, and Broome.

Meanwhile, Aviair will secure over AUD1.3 million (USD930,000) to maintain its flights on the Kununurra–Halls Creek–Balgo Hill and Derby, WA-Broome routes.

The state government said the services support the growth of local service centres and reduce the need to travel via Perth International. Additionally, it helps preserve access to healthcare and essential services for remote communities.

Western Australia recently announced an initiative to offset higher fuel costs for both operators, which are owned by HM Consolidated. As previously reported by ch-aviation, the fuel subsidies apply to multiple regional routes to ensure passenger fares remain affordable.

Aviair operates a fleet of six DHC-8-Q400s under the Nexus Airlines brand, alongside general aviation aircraft for its private and scenic charter operations.
